The Black Magnolia Mystery Award
Established in 2019 to publish the innovative, creative, and eclectic pathways open to the mystery novel writer, the Black Magnolia Mystery Award recognizes unique work of 150 pages or more. The awarded fiction manuscript is selected through an annual submission process open to all authors. We will consider traditional mysteries, historical mysteries, the cozy mystery and mysteries with elements of the thriller included. We are looking for innovative, fresh work.

Final Judge: the Editors
Deadline: December 30, 2019
Entry fee is $25.00. Title, name, address contact information and (optional) bio, on a cover sheet only, with a 150 page text minimum. Entries will be accepted via email only. The cover page will be separated before judging.
Guidelines
The award is open to all writers with the following exceptions:
Authors who have a full length work currently under consideration by Black Magnolia Books
Employees, interns, or contractors of Black Magnolia Books
Relatives of employees or members of the editorial staff
Relatives or individuals having a personal or professional relationship with any of the final judges.
Procedures and Ethical Considerations
All manuscripts shall be submitted to the judges without any identifying material. Bios, acknowledgments, and other identifying material shall be removed from judged manuscripts until the conclusion of the competition.
Black Magnolia Books is committed to maintaining the utmost integrity of our awards. Judges shall recuse themselves from considering any manuscript where they recognize the work. In the event of recusal, a manuscript score previously assigned by the managing editor of the press will be substituted.
